Project Update -July 2017
The second quarter has been great for the superfast team. There are already 73,000 premises in the county and city which have access to fibre broadband. Another 18 new cabinets went live this quarter with many more to go live soon. We continue to work closely with the city council to ensure we can reach as many homes and businesses as possible. If you have any questions email info@superfastleicestershire.org.uk Keep using the line checker to see if you’re already connected to fibre broadband. Visit the ‘When and Where?’ page of the Superfast Leicestershire website as the line checker is updated before anything else.
News
There are further plans to roll out superfast broadband to the remaining three percent of Leicestershire homes and businesses by the end of 2018. We want to extend the network to the properties, which are mainly located in the most difficult to reach rural areas. There will be a £5m boost to cover the third phase and increase coverage further.

Cabinets stood
Cabinets stood refer to the new green boxes which stand usually adjacent to the existing green roadside box in your village. You may have seen the new green cabinets appear recently and this new cabinet will house all the fibre connections; the existing green box houses the copper telephone lines. The fibre arrives at the cabinets through underground ducts, usually in the verges alongside roads, and it is only when this is connected to the stood cabinet, the cabinet goes live. A cabinet usually takes a minimum of six months to go live after it has been stood.
