Project update – 16 October 2015
We have been a busy team this week promoting the “Idea to Enterprise” programme that is designed to support Leicestershire’s female entrepreneurs who are looking for advice and support on growing their business ideas. The programme offers a mix of training sessions, networking opportunities, business refreshers and one to one business mentoring.
We’ve also been celebrating connecting over 50,000 premises and planning for the next set of events we are attending.
The Superfast Leicestershire team will be represented at the below events including our own Digital Conference on the 5 November:
27 Oct East Leicestershire LEADER launch at Coplow Centre, Billesdon – 6.30pm-9pm
28 Oct Blaby District Means Business and B2B exchange at Marriot Hotel – 8am-11am
29 Oct Leicester Business Event (LBE15) at Leicester Tigers – 9am-4.30pm
2 Nov Melton Borough Council Business Event at Parkside, Melton Mowbray – 1pm-3.30pm
5 Nov Superfast Leicestershire Digital Conference and Expo 2015 at Leicester Tigers – 8.30am-3.30pm
To see if you can upgrade to fibre broadband now check out the When and Where? page.As well as working towards the events, a lot of work has been completed on the main fibre network (spine) build. The new areas that we are branching out to are rural areas meaning it takes longer for us to get the necessary fibre through the ground. More homes and businesses will be connected very soon!
Cabinets now live:
These green cabinets (usually stood at the side of your road) are now enabled with fibre broadband meaning you should talk to your current communications provider about purchasing fibre or visit the Superfast Leicestershire website for more information on fibre broadband providers.
- Cabinets 33 & 41 on the MARKET HARBOROUGH exchange
Market Harborough – The Point and Compass Point (both Market Harborough)
Please be aware that as cabinets go live they take a couple of weeks before you will be able to order the fibre broadband. Providers can sometimes take time to become available on the fibre network. To get the best deal, wait 2-3 weeks when the market becomes more competitive. Find out more on our FAQ pages.
Cabinets experiencing challenges:
These cabinets are currently experiencing some difficult challenges and are being worked on daily to be resolved. They are also treated as a priority within the project.
Desford 12 & 13 (Botcheston, Peckleton) – Due to the location and surrounding area these two cabinets have taken some time to be able to start planning. BT are currently working on the plans and they are predicting that they will be ready in December 2015.
Husbands Bosworth 5 (Husbands Bosworth) – There have been delays in agreeing the location of this cabinet but it is now on track for delivery by December 2015.
Narborough 35,36 & 37 (parts of Narborough) – A change in the programme has meant that these cabinets are not expected to be live until December 2015.
Please be aware that these dates are subject to change depending on the individual situation. The Superfast Leicestershire team will continue to keep you updated with the latest changes. Sign up here or follow the Twitter updates using the hashtag #SuperfastLeics
Cabinets stood:
This refers to the new green boxes which stand usually adjacent to the existing green roadside box in your village. The new cabinet will house all the fibre connections; the existing green box houses the copper telephone lines. The two are then joined together.
- Ashby-de-la-Zouch 26 (Ashby-de-la-Zouch)
